This afternoon we welcome the supporters, officials and playing staff of Oxford United to the Abbey Stadium. We also welcome all Cambridge United supporters coming to the match.
The Audio For All team of volunteers has taken two big steps forward this season at Cambridge United thanks to new equipment and the creation of a proper base – the Accessibility Point behind the Newmarket Road end. The descriptive service is offered to anyone who may benefit – not just the visually impaired – while the Accessibility Point offers support services for anyone with additional needs, be they physical or sensory. The new audio equipment came via a donation from the club’s CUFCLottery https://www.cufclottery.co.uk/ , replacing kit which was donated second-hand when the service was launched in 2011. Fans using the service will hear the action de-scribed by a trained volunteer via a receiver and earpiece. Sensory packs are available for fans of any age who would benefit from one. These include noise-cancelling headphones, sensory balls, sunflower sticker to wear and a sheet of puzzles. Information on the stadium’s Picture Pathway App is also available. Audio sets and headphones must be returned to the Accessibility Point after use. All of the above is provided by volunteers with the backing of the club. Point of contact: Nick Parker (AFA co-ordinator) 07929 589925 nick.parker56@googlemail.com or visit the Supporter Accessibility page on the club’s website https://www.cambridgeunited.com/fans/accessibility/ We also need to congratulate the Cambridge United Youth side in securing their place in the FA Youth Cup Quarter-Final following the win against Sheffield Wednesday, I would like to wish them every success in the tie against Arsenal at the Emirates next week. At the time of writing there are 1500 supporters travelling to support the side. Thank you to everyone who is going to the game. Remember be Loud, Proud and United in your support. It is an exceptional turn out and reminds me of when we played against Arsenal at Highbury in the FA Cup Quarter Final. Many supporters travelled on the day to find out that the tickets had sold out for the match on their arrival and couldn’t get in.
