Today, we welcome the supporters, officials and players of Portsmouth to the Abbey Stadium. I have a lot of respect for supporters like Ashley Brown and Simon Colebrook. I have spoken to them many times over the years. Ashley has been and continues to be a really important figure in his roles with both Supporters Direct and the Football Supporters Association (FSA). He is one of those go to people who is the font of all knowledge and has so much experience. Simon and myself have been working together on a project for the past eighteen months, so we have shared many zoom calls and hours during that time. What the Pompey Supporters Trust and their board achieved at Portsmouth was nothing less than remarkable.
Just before Christmas we received the Family Excellent Award scores following their assessors first visit to the Abbey Stadium earlier in the season. The scores are based on a visit by a mystery shopper. Although, the marks were promising and were an improvement on previous ones we still have a way to go on the journey. There is always more to do and more to learn. Once one bar is reached then its target needs to be raised. The EFL’s Family Excellence Scheme was launched to reward clubs in their efforts to deliver an outstanding match-day family experience. The scheme revolves around a ‘mystery fan’ visiting each season, with assessors and family groups reporting back on their experiences across a range of touchpoints. These being First Impressions, Social Media, Travel, Stadium Vicinity, Retail, Refreshments, Inside the Stadium, People, Friendliness and Feeling Valued The assessments and feedback produced help to focus on the areas required to ensure improvements can be made. The visits, and the positive changes made as a result, go towards determining whether Clubs are awarded Family Excellence status each season. There will be a second visit made by an accessor at some point from February onwards. We need to be ready when they come back. During November, the CUFCLottery purchased a new offroad wheelchair for the club. The existing one was broken and needed replacing. Since its arrival it has already been used twice to help the medical team to assist supporters at matches.
