Parking around the ground
A number of fans fell foul of the parking regulations around the ground on Saturday. Having followed up with the Council, we wanted to clarify these ahead of future games (as we understand them). If there are double yellow lines, these also apply to the kerb, grass or other space alongside them as far in as the nearest property. This means that for example, on Barnwell Road as you head up towards the McDonalds roundabout, there are double yellow lines which run either side of the pedestrian crossing. The large grass verge to the left (is up to the hedge) is thus a prohibited parking area so long as you are alongside the lines - so please do not park there. Double yellow lines are in force 24/7 so this will apply to both afternoon and evening games. The Newmarket Road Park & Ride is of course still available and provides a safe and convenient place to park. #CamUTD

Would it be possible to liaise with the park and ride that a park and ride - stadium - park and ride only bus is available for 60-90’mins after a game. Especially at night. Very difficult for home and away fans to get on the already full buses coming from the centre to get back to the parking.

Or perhaps the club could liase with Stagecoach (as they did for the Man Utd match) to get a couple of extra P&R buses to start from the ground rather than the City Centre, or ask them to divert the Citi 3 to the P&R site and back, on their way to Fison Road. All they need is convincing that it will earn money!

People have been parking on the large area of grass at the end of Newmarket Road, opposite the chip shop for as long as I can remember - why the sudden need to issue tickets or stop it ? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick ? If I haven’t, this means a good number of cars need to find alternative spaces - CHAOS !! The buses to park and ride are always full so not a great option.

Simple answer is revenue generation. Every ticket issued makes money, probably for the company that now do the parking enforcement and also for the City or County Council, whoever it is that employs them. I was a Traffic Warden in Cambridge in the early 1990s (we were part of Cambridge Constabulary) when they introduced Tow-Away!! £35 for the Parking Ticket and £105 to get your car back from the Tow-Away pound, PLUS the cost of the taxi to get you there. Now that is revenue generation!!

Parking around the ground now is getting near impossible and park & ride is not necessary the answer for 2 reasons 1st buses are often full time they reach the ground from the town after the game sometimes waiting 40 minutes.
