Supporter safety at the Abbey Stadium

21/1/2020

Picture
Did you know that Cambridge United staff and match day stewards received further first aid training in the medical centre before the Stevenage fixture.

The training is provided to ensure that everyone who attends a match at the Abbey Stadium will do so with the  knowledge that everything is in place to ensure that their safety and well being is the priority.

The staff and stewards regularly undertake first aid training in the areas listed below
  • First aid, the recovery position, CPR and Automated external defibrillator use
  • The aims of first aid are to preserve life, prevent harm, and promote recovery.
  • In first aid, ABC stands for airway, breathing, and circulation.
  • The recovery position helps minimize further injury.
  • CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Cambridge United would like to thank Simon Butler for providing the training and the stewards for attending this very important training session.

No rabbits on view at the Abbey Stadium today, just Ian and Mick getting the pitch ready. Photos by Alan Burge

Story from earlier in the week

Ground staff left hopping mad. Not an everyday event at
@CambridgeUtdFC however while getting the pitch ready for the match against @StevenageFC on Saturday we found that rabbits had chewed their way through the nets overnight. Repairs have now been made by Ian Darler. #camUTD

Ian learnt how to repair the nets through watching the Cornish fishermen on TV this week repairing their fishing nets

More on the rabbits can be seen here on the BBC story

Our first game of the year was not the result to remember…..I wonder what the referee thought when he saw the video of Reggie being pulled back and flung to the ground!

However the referee was not to blame for our defenders making mistakes that lead to their goals. Still, it was a better team performance that that against Morecambe!
Happy Dion Dublin day….3rd Jan 1989….PUFC 1, CUFC 5 (Dublin (3), Ryan, Leadbitter). Unfortunately I can’t say “I was there”!
 UFC at Macclesfield
Hopefully there will be no late strike by Macclesfield players for not being paid.

Tickets are not available in advance on the CUFC website, but are available from Macclesfield here: https://macclesfieldtownfc.ticketco.events/uk/en/e/sky_bet_league_two_macclesfield_town_fc_vs_cambridge_united
CUFC v Mansfield 50/50 numbers
  • First prize: £350, #16948
  • 2nd: Partyman World of Play membership: #11490
  • 3rd: Shepreth Wildlife Park tickets: #13467
CUFC Foodbank (#hungerdoesntwearclubcolours)
Many thanks to all those who donated food and other items at the Mansfield game which will go to help local families. This initiative will continue, you can also leave items at the club shop on non-match days. Tesco vouchers are also accepted (and are much lighter to carry!).
Details (including the most required items) are here: http://www.cambridgefansunited.org/blogs/cambridge-united-back-hungerdoesntwearclubcolours
CUFC FUTSAL
The CUFC Futsal team next home game is Sunday 12th January 2020, against Oxford City (add your own university joke here!), KO 3pm.
Details of the CUFC Futsal matches can be found on their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/CambridgeUnitedFutsal/
CUFC Lottery
The accumulator prize has been won! Neil from Sussex is now £3,650 richer, and received his cheque on the pitch at the Morecambe game
The accumulator now resets to £500, and increases by £50 every week until it is won
To be in with a chance of winning join the CUFC lottery here: https://www.cufclottery.co.uk/join.html
It is only £2 a week, profits are used to improve fan amenities, fund local community projects and support local charitable causes.

Where is the nearest cash machine to the Stadium?

The Co-op opposite the ground and Bargain Booze on Moss Lane, near the recommended away pub, have free to use cash machines.

When do turnstiles open?
Turnstiles open around 60 minutes before kick-off.

Food available in the area?

Food outside of the ground may be limited with it being on Boxing Day.  There is a Burger King on London Road just past the ground and a Co-op on the opposite corner to the away end.

By road
From the North (M6) Exit the M6 at junction 19 (Knutsford) and follow the A537 to Macclesfield. Follow the signs to the Town Centre. The ground is signposted from the Town Centre but if in doubt follow the signs towards Leek (A523) The ground is about one mile out of town on the Leek road A523 with the stadium is immediately in front of you. The Away Ticket Office is located immediately to the left of the ground next to the Silkmen Cafe.

From the North (Manchester/M62+M60) Follow the A6 through Stockport until the road forks. Take the right hand fork signposted Macclesfield (A523). Follow this road past the town until you reach the end of the dual carriageway. The ground is roughly 1.25 miles on your right. Leave the M60 at Stockport and follow as above or leave at J3 Cheadle and follow the A34 following the signs for Macclesfield and 'Other Routes'.

From the South (M6)Exit the M6 at junction 17 (Sandbach) and follow the A534 to Congleton. From here take the A536 to Macclesfield (Macclesfield is signposted from the Motorway). After passing the 'Millers' pub on the left continue for about 1/4 of a mile and take the first right after the speed-camera onto Moss Lane. Follow Moss Lane until you reach the ground. Continue along Moss Lane past the ground and round a right hand bend to the away end of the ground. The Away Ticket Office is located immediately to the left of the ground next to the Silkmen Cafe.

From the East (Buxton)Come into Macclesfield on the A537 (Careful though, it's reportedly the most dangerous road in the country). At the bottom of the hill with the station opposite, turn left onto the dual carriageway. Then as above.

Other RoutesThe Ground is signposted from the Town Centre but if in doubt follow the signs towards Leek (A523). The ground is about one mile out of town on the A523 and is immediately in front of you. The Away Ticket Office is located immediately to the left of the ground as you approach the ground next to the Silkmen Cafe.
Car ParkingAlthough the Club does not have a car park for visiting supporters, there is ample road side parking in the immediate areas around the ground.  The Club asks supporters to be advised to check for double white and yellow lines.

A very safe place to park is in the Lyme Green Retail Park, which is only about 300 yards South of the ground down the London Road or on the London Road itself.

By train
The nearest station is Macclesfield. Leave the station and turn left up Sunderland Street until you reach a major crossroads at the war memorial. Take the left here and follow for roughly a mile. The ground is immediately in front of you with the Away Ticket Office is located immediately to the left of the ground next to the Silkmen Cafe.

SmokingThe Stadium is a non-smoking venue on match days and this includes electronic cigarettes. At other events and social occasions at the stadium smoking is allowed in designated areas.

Matchday ProgrammeOur match day programme is priced at £3.00 for 48 pages and is available from a number of locations both outside and inside the ground.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Moss Rose and hope you enjoy your visit
