CFU Appeal to football supporters
Dear Fan, We at CFU would like to urge you to support the Fans Led Review and to write to your MP asking them to show their support for the report by writing to Nadine Dorries, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture , Media and Sport. It is easy enough to read the full report online but it is particularly important to read the section on Diversity. Sections 7 and 8, which follow this, are particularly important for all supporters as they give a clear idea as to how fully involved they could be in the running of clubs in the future. Most MPs will support the proposals but the Government needs to hear from elected representatives from all over the country. We have seen manifesto promises “forgotten” before and our political leaders need to be reminded just how much our game matters to us and how strongly we feel about unfairness and the hijacking of the working person’s sport by the media moghuls and investors, people who don’t have the best interests of the sport at heart. Most MPs don’t like template or automatically generated emails, so try to make yours personal: 1 How long have you been a Cambridge United fan and what does your club mean to you? 2 Ask your MP to write to Nadine Dorries and ask her to call on the government to back all the recommendations of the Fan Led Review of football governance, as it said it would. 3 Football has shown itself incapable of putting its own house in order so it needs an independent regulator to make sure that it does. 4 We also need stronger and fairer financial controls, to protect our heritage from ill -conceived schemes like the European Super League. The grass roots, the future of football, must be properly funded. Equality, Diversity, Fairness and Real Competition must be the central values to the way the game is run. Fans must never be faced with losing their clubs because of ego driven owners with no understanding of tradition or the aspirations of fans. Finally, supporters’ organisations like ours must be embedded in their clubs and have a real say in the way they are run. Their views must never be an afterthought. Football without fans is nothing! Thank your MP for his or her attention and remember, every single letter makes a difference! United in Endeavour, Andrew Stephen, Chairman of CFU. |
