Max Clark has returned to Cambridge United on a six-month loan deal from Hull. The 20-year-old midfielder spent the end of last season at United after joining on a temporary basis from the Tigers. Clark went on to make nine appearances for Shaun Derry's side and showed his versatility during that time by playing both in the centre of the park and at left-back. Despite his debut coinciding with March's 3-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers, Clark went on to feature in every game as United rounded off the campaign with an eight-match unbeaten streak. By Daniel Geey and Jonny Madill from April and Daniel Geey personal blog
In the run-up to the Brexit referendum, there have been a steadily increasing number of articles on the Brexit consequences for the Premier League. This blog sets out our high level thoughts on what we can expect to see down the track should Brexit occur and the consequences for work permits, free movement, quotas and free transfers in the Premier League. Work Permits and Free Movement The doomsday scenario suggested by some (such as here and here) is that Brexit would result in a host of players who fail to meet the current work permit criteria. The role of the parent is the most important element for young players to progress (Article from Whitehouse Address first published in February)
In the past few years this blog has discussed the importance of coaches in the development of young players. What we haven’t focused on enough is the role of parents. And this is a big neglect, because the role of the parent is arguably the most important. As this article will discuss, parents are the key for players (all children’s) development. Last week there was a lot of discussion and debate on the role of parents in youth football. The argument was simple, ‘let them play’. Meaning, stop talking from the side, stop coaching and controlling players, and simply watch and observe them in action. Now I would say that there has been a culture change in terms of this issue in recent years. Youth football, both at Academy level and grassroots has become a much better environment for young players in terms of being shouted at (both positively and negatively) from the sidelines. WE ARE on the brink of the digital revolution. Some might say we are already in the midst of it. Anyone who has seen the film I, Robot or the UK TV series Humans, will be aware that sci-fi writers have been predicting the onset of Artificial Intelligence for years. It’s been creeping upon us and anyone who dares question it is considered to be a luddite.
We all benefit from technology – just look at how many devices you have to charge-up every weekend. But we are in danger of teching ourselves out of useful existence. While we can all marvel at the possibilities that new inventions can bring us, you sometimes have to slow down and ask yourself what will people do for a living in the future. Are we, in fact, creating a jobless world? A new report produced by the FSF, and supported by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA), encourages local authorities and supporters to work together on spectator safety.
The Engaging with Supporters report encourages football fans to get involved with their local Safety Advisory Group (SAG) - the committee of local authorities that decide on many matchday safey issues. Additionally, the report urges local authorities to engage with fans and allow fan representation on local SAGs. 'Overwhelming majority' against Premier League under-21 sides joining from the BBC Website
Most fans feel the addition of Premier League academy sides to the EFL Trophy "undermines the integrity of the competition", according to the Football Supporters' Federation. Sixteen category one academy sides will play League One and Two clubs in a bigger 64-team competition in 2016-17. The change to the former Johnstone's Paint Trophy is a one-season trial. "The reaction from the overwhelming majority of fans to the news has been incredibly negative," said a statement. 2016 Volunteers’ Week took place between the 1st and the 12th of June and at Supporters Direct we would like to celebrate the value of volunteers to football, especially to supporter-owned clubs.
There are many reasons for volunteering in football, such as gaining new skills or socialising, but on many occasions fans do it just because they want to feel part of the team and want to give something back to organisations that have played a big role in their lives. The attachment some people have to the football clubs they support and to their communities often makes them want to make an impact to these environments without earning any sum of money in return. This attachment is really evident regarding fan-owned clubs, which at the same time give more opportunities to volunteer. Those are business benefits of supporter ownership in comparison with privately owned clubs. We all get stressed. The question is: what do you do about it?
This is the theme of Men's Health Week 2016. It matters because if we don’t release stress, it can turn into something more serious. This year, one in four of us will develop a mental health problem. That is odds of 3 to 1. Or about the same as France or Germany winning the Euro 2016 football. In other words, it’s likely to happen sooner or later if we let stress build.
