CAMBRIDGE UNITED STATEMENT: PLANNING APPLICATION WITHDRAWAL Following Grosvenor's withdrawal of its planning application, Cambridge United are issuing the following statement:"Radically improving our stadium and creating sporting facilities for our Community Trust remains fundamental to the long term future of Cambridge United. It is an absolute necessity for the Club and critical to the ambitions that we have to further develop the social value of our community work. The Club has remained fully supportive of Grosvenor's planning application throughout the process and have been fully engaged with all the local authorities. Having been in constant dialogue with Grosvenor, we were aware of the potential change in their position and therefore started to explore other options. We want all of our supporters to know that this is by no means the end of the story and we will make an announcement regarding our aspirations at an appropriate time. Our ambition for Cambridge United as a football club at the heart of the community is greater than at any point in its history; new facilities are critical to that vision. We would like to place on record again our thanks to Grosvenor for pursuing such an ambitious plan with such positive motives for the Club. Grosvenor's support for Cambridge United has been unstinting since they purchased our site in 2010. They continue to allow the Club to pay an affordable rent, rather than the amount that could be charged under the lease they inherited. Without their financial help it is no exaggeration to say that the Club would have gone out of business when we were in the Football Conference. It is clear they remain committed to Cambridge. Cambridge is a world class City, renowned across the globe, synonymous with innovation, development and research, and the fastest growing City in the U.K. However, it is also the City with the greatest inequality in the U.K. This is most starkly demonstrated by the fact that average life expectancy is nine years less for those born in Abbey Ward, where our stadium is located, than more affluent areas of Cambridge. Our Community Trust is working together with Cambridge City Council and other appropriate agencies to tackle child poverty and a raft of social issues within Abbey Ward and other areas of need. We are certain that with a modern stadium and associated facilities for our Club and Community Trust, Cambridge United can be an even greater asset to the City and wider community, and a catalyst for the regeneration of Abbey Ward in particular. We are committed to working with the local authorities and will be relentless in our pursuit of achieving the right outcome for Cambridge." The CUFC Lottery organised and managed by CFU is funding the following initiative
CRY CARDIAC TESTING AT: CAMBRIDGE UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB, THE CAMBS GLASS STADIUM, NEWMARKET ROAD, CAMBRIDGE, CB5 8LN I am writing to you on behalf of the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in order to let you know about a cardiac screening programme for people aged 14–35 years old, which will be held at Cambridge United FC on Sunday 16th July 2017. This screening is being funded by Cambridge United FC and is in memory of Alex Roberts. This screening is therefore free of charge. CRY’s mission is to identify those that are at risk from sudden cardiac death. Sudden death syndrome is an umbrella term for the many different causes of young sudden cardiac death. These conditions include thickening of the heart muscle or an abnormal structure of the heart, and irregularities of the impulses that control the rhythm of the heart. Youngsters involved in sport, in particular, stress their heart the most and if they have an underlying cardiac abnormality, they are more likely to be at risk. It is important to emphasise that exercise is NOT harmful and sport itself does not cause cardiac arrest, but can exacerbate an undetected condition. At a screening, your son/daughter will receive an electrocardiogram (ECG) that examines the electrical activity of the heart, and if required, an echocardiogram, as well as a physical examination. The ECG is a simple, non-invasive and painless test that will only take a few minutes to complete and is performed by qualified cardiac physiologists. The ECG results will be examined by a doctor in conjunction with a personal and family history questionnaire, and if a more detailed picture is needed some individuals will be required to undertake a follow-up echocardiogram. This is an ultrasound scan of the heart that looks at its size, structure and blood flow and takes about 30 minutes to perform. All results suggesting an abnormality will then be sent to CRY Consultant Cardiologist Professor Sanjay Sharma, a leading expert on inherited cardiac conditions. If you would like to have your son/daughter tested you should complete the following: Please go to www.testmyheart.org.uk 1. At the top of the page is the header “PRIVATE SCREENINGS”, click on this link and you will see Cambridge United FC on 16th July 2017. 2. Click on the name and you will be asked for a password, this is “Roberts17”. Please ensure the first letter of the password is capitalised. Click on the “Places Available” link and choose a time slot. Please do not give out this password as this screening is PRIVATE for the club. 3. Fill in the required details and then click book. 4. You will receive a pending email which means the appointment is booked (please check your junk email folder if you do not receive this in your inbox). Nearer the time of the screening you will be sent a confirmation email; this will include a medical questionnaire and consent form. Please download the documents, read carefully, complete the required information and take them with you on the day. If you would like any additional information about cardiac screening please visit www.c-r-y.org.uk/cardiac-screening. Alternatively, please contact a member of the CRY screening team on screening@c-r-y.org.uk or call 020 3691 0000. Last year we gave everyone the opportunity to complete the CUFC survey
I would like to run the survey again using the same questions. I hope you will take part in this survey. I cannot promise to change everything. However, with your views and opinions, I will be able to understand what is required while focusing on the areas that matter most, ensuring the match day experience is continually being improved. Every few years we hold a national supporters survey to assess the state of the game and its fans - and you can fill in the 2017 National Supporters Survey now.
The last of these censuses was carried out in 2012 with more than 4,000 supporters from 130 different clubs – Arsenal to Afan Lido, Wolves to Welling United – completing our survey, giving us a snapshot of supporters’ views up and down the game. Football and football supporters have moved on significantly in the intervening five years – particularly the way we talk to and about our clubs through social media and watch matches across various digital platforms. We’re also interested to see what hasn’t changed: do fans still back video technology? Are they still against the idea of a winter break?- See more at: http://www.fsf.org.uk/latest-news/view/national-supporters-survey-2017-launched#sthash.EObyGrk9.dpuf Thank you for your continued support of the CUFC Lottery.
