Dave Matthews-Jones SLO Programme Article - Fleetwood

27/9/2021

Picture
This afternoon we welcome the Cod Army, officials and players of Fleetwood Town to the Abbey Stadium. A previous match between the sides saw a young Jamie Vardy playing for Fleetwood. It proves how important the football pyramid is in the development and progression of players in this country. Would he and others have made it in their careers if it wasn’t for the opportunity to develop at clubs like ours. With the Fans Led Review underway one of the groups involved in that process is Fair Game read more about them via the organisations web site https://www.fairgameuk.org/

This month they published their manifesto, as a supporter you really should take the time to read it via the following link https://tinyurl.com/aym29j3h There are a number organisations involved in the Fans Led Review. All of those groups will have influence on the future and determine the direction of the game going forwards.

Fair Game is led by the league and non-league clubs involved with them who share the same principles. It is also being supported by experts in many different areas. They are backed by politicians and believe in sustainability, integrity and community. They wish to see football governed with fairness, openness and transparency at its core; honouring the mantra that the game can be a force for good and putting clubs at the heart of the communities they serve. There are some interesting ideas concerning Fan Engagement and the group refer to the following - that supporters will have the final say on items like the clubs name, nickname, colours, badge and leaving the geographical location connected to the clubs name. Clubs would be encouraged to adopt a multi-level approach to “Fan Engagement” and transparency through publication of formal club meetings. The regulator would also publish clubs’ performance against the “Fan Engagement” criteria in the Sustainability Index. More information concerning football clubs would also be available for supporters to see.

Part of being at the heart of the community is about being a good neighbour to everyone living locally in the area. Community Trusts do exceptional works however supporters across the country nowadays provide foodbanks and do other good works. Before lockdown we had started to collect items on matchdays for the local foodbanks and had distributed hundreds of old kits overseas. There are now two wheelie bins situated by the programme outlet near the shop. We are collecting old football kits and boots so please have a look through the draws and cupboards for any. If you have any surplus food, please donate it. No one should suffer from hunger so it is really important to support the foodbanks locally and also reduce the amount of waste being put into landfill.

Old laptops, desktop computers, flat screen monitors and tablets can also be taken to Emmaus Reboot in Landbeach See their website and take particular notice of opening times which can change https://emmaus.org.uk/cambridge/what-we-do/emmaus-reboot/

At some point in the future we might have a collection point/day for donations

We have mentioned Picturepath that helps SEN children. There is an online user guide to assist you when downloading the app see https://youtu.be/XBYUkzyb1oA

Supporters’ groups call on new minister to press on with reform

Supporters’ groups call on new minister to press on with reform

More than 100 supporters’ organisations from across England and Wales have co-signed an open letter to Nadine Dorries MP, the new secretary of state for Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

  • You can read the letter here…

The letter welcomes the minister to the role and encourages her to ensure the Government fixes football governance via the Fan-Led Review. The Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) is meeting with the secretary of state soon.

“Football clubs are at the heart of their communities, cultural institutions which bring a sense of identity, pride and belonging for millions of people every week. They deserve protection,” says the letter. “We know that you will receive the final report from Tracey Crouch MP later this year, and would urge you to retain the commitment to independent regulation.”

Tracey Crouch MP is leading the Fan-led Review of Football Governance and her interim report was clear that radical reform is needed to change the power structures of the game and protect clubs from rogue owners, including the need for independent regulation.

More than 100 FSA-affiliated and associated supporters’ groups in the men’s and women’s game, including those from clubs at the top of the sport to non-league level, have co-signed the letter.

If your supporters’ group would like to join the FSA and co-sign the letter, or if your group is already a member, please contact the FSA and we can add your organisation’s name to the list of signatories.

Dave Matthews-Jones SLO Programme Article - Lincoln

Picture
This afternoon we welcome the supporters, officials and players of Lincoln City to the Abbey Stadium. Most Cambridge United supporters will remember a previous visit when the clubs played each other in 1970 for the U's first Football League match in front of 6,843 spectators.  That encounter finished in a draw with Colin Meldrum heading home the equaliser. You can read the Light Blue report for the 15th August 1970 via the https://tinyurl.com/2feeex33 on the 100yearsofcoconuts web site. 100yearsofcoconuts follows the history of club. If you have visited their website. I would recommend you pay it a visit www.100yearsofcoconuts.co.uk there is so much rich history surrounding Abbey United and Cambridge United.

During the summer there has been a spectacular art exhibition around Cambridge which has proved to be extremely popular with anyone viewing it. The exhibition called Cows about Cambridge featured 44 large ones and 46 mini cows at different locations around the city.

One of the most visited Cows was positioned outside Parkside swimming pool and for Cambridge United supporters it became a must see exhibit.  Today, it joins us at the Abbey Stadium, so if you missed it previously you can see the cow outside the Abbey Arms before or after today's match. Why not have your photo taken with it?

On the 23rd September, the large cows will take centre stage at an auction to raise money for the charity Break The auction will take place at 7pm at the Graduate Hotel and will be hosted by celebrity auctioneer and TV personality Charles Hanson.  Charles is famous for his appearances on BBC's Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip and Flog it. To register your interest here: Charity Auction - Cows about Cambridge 2021 : Cows about Cambridge 2021

This will be your opportunity to own the Cambridge United cow by bidding on the evening. It could become a feature in your office, front room or garden. It is I am told extremely well behaved and is also house trained. Wherever you want to keep it, the cow will be a unique one off item of football memorabilia.

The charity Break operate throughout the East Anglia region with particular concentration in the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Break give vulnerable children and young people the time, support, and love they need to achieve their full potential. Through innovation, lifelong relationships, and keeping young people at the heart of what we do, they transform futures and change lives. If you would like to donate or make a regular payment to them, see more by following the link here

On Saturday 18th September the Amber Army will be visiting Portsmouth at Fratton Park. The coach will depart from The Hive Leisure Centre in Ely at 07.45 and the Abbey Stadium at 08.30. Tickets for the coach can be made by using the QR code below, online here or at the CFU outlet on matchdays. The price of a seat in the coach is £30, for everyone.

Click Away Travel requirements from 18/9/2021

You must demonstrate you are at a low-risk of transmitting COVID-19. All travellers aged 11 or older must show evidence of one of the following to be allowed to travel on the away coach

o Proof of a negative Lateral Flow Test (LFT), reported and demonstrated via a text message or email from NHS Test and Trace. The test needs to be taken within 48 hours of the time the coach leaves the stadium and the email confirmation must be sent to cfuawaytravel@yahoo.com no later than 24 hours before travel.  This will then be passed to our coach company Grey’s of Ely.  A photo of your negative test is not acceptable.

o Or proof of full vaccination - both doses received at least 14 days prior to travel, shown at time of travel on the NHS App or a printed copy.  The card given to you at the time of the vaccine is not acceptable.

Please note the “NHS App” is different to the “NHS COVID-19 App”.

You can also  call 119 to get a letter sent to you if you cannot get one online.   You will need to have  your NHS  number  . This number is added to any letter you have received or included on a prescription.  If you do not have  one of these options  please contact your  Health Centre

Failure to provide one of these forms of evidence will mean you are unable to travel.

NHS Lateral Flow Test (LFT)
● The test needs to be taken within 48 hours of the time of travel
● The results of the Lateral Flow Tests need to be uploaded using the NHS self-report tool.
● You must forward proof of your negative test by text or email to 07591 111251 for text (include your name) or to cfuawaytravel@yahoo.com for email proof no later than 24 hours before departure.

Options
1. At Home testing (Recommended)
You can order Lateral Flow Tests for home delivery online.
2. Asymptomatic Testing Site (ATS) testing
Alternatively, you can go to an ATS to take your test. Find a test site on this website. Apply filters under the heading “test site for people without symptoms”. You will need to book an appointment.
3. Lateral Flow Test - Collect
Another option is to visit a Test Collect Site or pharmacy to collect your Lateral Flow Tests for self-testing.

Vaccine Certification
If you live in England, you can see your vaccination status via the NHS App.
Please note the ‘NHS App’ is different to the ‘NHS COVID-19’ app.

● If you have been vaccinated against COVID-19, you can show your certification on the NHS app when boarding the coach
● On the NHS App select “Get your NHS COVID pass” then select “Domestic”” This will then show the date of both your vaccinations.
● In order to use the NHS App you must be registered with a GP in England and over 16 years of age.
● Keep in mind you will need to download and register for the NHS App, prove your identity and check your vaccination status BEFORE travelling. This process may take up to 7 days, so we recommend you do this as soon as possible before travelling, however on average this is completed in a quicker time frame.here to edit.
