Future of football governance - MPs call on sports minister to start “fan-led review”

27/11/2020

Picture
The Westminster Hall debate was tabled by Clive Efford MP, a Millwall fan and member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Football Supporters to which the Football Supporters’ Association is secretariat.

The sports minister promised the Government would not kick the review into the long-grass but announced no firm timetable or terms of reference – following Project Big Picture supporters firmly believe it should be wide-ranging and encompass football’s power structure.

You can watch the Westminster Hall debate here (Parliamentlive.tv is currently unavailable to embed)…

  • 14:31 – Clive Efford MP warns that COVID-19 has shone a light on the game’s shortcomings, and asks why the Premier League haven’t involved fans and other stakeholders in their own strategic review?
  • 14:40 – Bury North MP James Daly says the club were “abandoned to the wolves by the football authorities”
  • 14.46 – Zara Sultana MP for Coventry South raises Coventry City case whereby the club has repeatedly been forced to move from the Ricoh Arena to other towns – an “absurd and ridiculous” situation for fans. She calls for far-reaching reforms including increased measures to empower supporters trusts.
  • 14.50.30 – Damian Collins MP says clubs are community assets and a governance review is needed. Also points out the Government has “skin in the game” as EFL clubs have tax liabilities to the Treasury of approximately £100m.
  • 14.59.55 – Justin Madders MP says money leaks out of the game to owners, such as the £1bn dividend paid to themselves by the Glazers at Manchester United. More investment is needed in grassroots football as facilities are often second rate compared to other top football nations.
  • 15.08 – James Daly MP says this is a “raw” issue in Bury and says clubs shouldn’t be treated like normal businesses. Who should we govern on behalf of? The first duty of the regulator has to be to the fans.
  • 14.15.45 – Christian Wakeford MP (Bury South) – “The review of football does need to be fan driven and involve supporters’ trusts.”
  • 15.21 – Alison McGovern MP (Labour shadow sport minister) – talks about the devastation for Bury fans, says there’s a clear case for reform, asks when the Government will deliver its “fan-led review”?
  • 15.32 – Sports minister Nigel Huddleston says the review has already started “informally”, the Government will announce a formal review in due course, but it has no intention to kick the issue into the long grass. He says it’s crucial that any proposals have the support of fans and notes the FSA’s opposition to Project Big Picture.
  • 15.51 – Clive Efford MP closes the debate, reiterates the need for change, and welcomes the Government’s commitment to a fan-led review.

We want your feedback on EFL streaming

25/11/2020

Streaming games has become a new way of life for fans in the EFL following the decision to start the season behind-closed-doors, but how are the streaming platforms coping with the new influx of users? We are asking fans of EFL clubs to let us know about their experiences in a new survey, the results of which will be fed back to the EFL.

Previously the iFollow platform was mostly the preserve of overseas fans and those who perhaps were unable to travel long distances to away fixtures, but the reality of this season without fans in grounds now means tens of thousands are accessing their games online every week.

Complete the Survey via the link ------ thefsa.org.uk/news/we-want-your-feedback-on-efl-streaming/

Fans’ experiences have varied with the system, which is why we are collecting the single biggest independent dataset of supporter feedback. It will cover everything from how fans rate different aspects of their experience, to which devices they are using, how they’re paying for the services, and identifying any problems they have had.
Not all of the EFL’s 72 clubs use iFollow, and we are also collating fans’ experiences of their clubs’ own streaming platforms within the survey.

Cambridge United - Face in the Crowd - We are here to help you order

16/11/2020

Picture
Our fixtures are scheduled to be behind closed doors, but you can still show your support by having a face in the crowd which will be displayed on a seat in the Abbey Stadium.

If are having problems with organising a Face in the Crowd then CFU will help you. We will take the stress out of the process and organise it to happen on your behalf.

For us to complete your order you will need to make a donation of 25 pounds. We will then contact you and ask for the digital photo you would like to be sent via email to us

The photo can be of your favourite player or a legend from yesterday. It can be a film, pop star or your pet dog or cat. If choosing a favourite player let us know who you are choosing by filling in the text box

By working with Face in the Crowd, fans and supporters can buy a cut-out of their face which will be printed and displayed in the Ground for all of the matches. If you prefer to order directly see https://www.faceinthecrowd.store/home/26-cambridge-united-fc-fan-visual.html

Each cut-out costs £25 with an image of your choice printed on polypropylene which is made from 100% recyclable material and is weatherproof.

Why not make it even more of a #UnitedFamily event by having your whole family (even your pet) printed and displayed in the Ground.

Once the 2020 season has been completed, the cut-outs will be collected and safely stored at the Ground.

If you want to collect your cutout at that point then no problem. We we will arrange that for you

We can not accept any damage to the cut outs due to wayward shooting (obviously from the opposition) or adverse weather conditions

Match day - ifollow assistance for season ticket holders

3/11/2020

Picture
There have been recent changes to the iFollow access for Season Ticket Holders. If you had problems getting the
service please see below.

The system is changing from a code-based approach to an email account system, which allows STH's automatic access to home league fixtures that are played behind closed doors.

Supporters that are STH's need to ensure that the email address on record at cufcdirect.com is consistent with their iFollow account to be granted automatic access.

Supporters who do not have matching emails will need to update their email to the same.

Please make sure your email address linked to their ST at cufcdirect.com matches the address they hold on their iFollow account.

Check STH access to iFollow:

Log in to your iFollow account on the club website
Click your name in the navigation bar top right to get to 'My Account page'
Scroll down to Purchased packages.
Click the + sign next to 'Purchased Packages'
If they have been granted access, you will see 'Season Ticket – Cambridge Untied'

If it doesn’t show, then you have not set up an iFollow account using the registered email we have for you, therefore you will not be automatically granted access.

If this is the case, in order not miss Tuesday's game you will need to email info@cambridge-united.co.uk to request a code and confirm what email you have set up for iFollow, we can then update the EFL who will run another upload later this month.
