TRAVELLING TO THE GAME some information for you
The stadium is located adjacent to Junction 28 on the A12 and can be found on a sat nav at the postcode CO4 5UP. PARKING Fans of both teams can park in the stadium car park, with parking available at £6 per vehicle. This often sells out before a match, so advance purchases via www.colutickets.com are advised and fans can use Colchester’s Print @ Home service to print off the permit. Should the stadium car park sell out, football fans are able to park at the Colchester Park & Ride car park, which is on the other side of the A12 and costs £3 per car. To get back to the stadium, please leave via the Boxted Road exit and walk across the bridge back to the stadium site (5-10 minute walk). SHUTTLE BUSES The club will be operating its usual Shuttle Bus service from Bruff Close, across the road from Colchester train station. This costs £2.50 return, or free with the production of a Senior Citizens concessionary bus pass. STADIUM INFORMATION Cambridge fans will be in the North Stand, which is the one closest to the A12. Prior to the game, there will be a concourse bar open in the Weston Homes Stand (at the other end of the stadium), which both fans are able to use. This bar is next to our live music area and there is likely to be a performance from 1.45pm to 2.30pm at this time. There are also likely to be other additional activities that young fans of both sides can participate in. For fans wishing to buy food prior to the game, there is also Hot Shots, the club’s café, where sandwiches and various other snacks and drinks are available.

An edited version of this article appeared in the Cambridge United matchday programme for the game against Barnet on 26 December 2017.
You can still hear echoes of the joyous whoops that shattered the peace of Coconuts Acres’ long, dusty corridors when the news broke: the Abbey Stadium, known to generations of United supporters as the Abbey Stadium, would henceforth be known officially as the Abbey Stadium. Although I think the club could have found someone a little less unsightly to present the Coconuts view on its splendid announcement video, we applaud this recognition that some things are sacrosanct. We recognise that the sale of the naming rights can present football clubs with a valuable – sometimes essential – amount of dosh over prolonged periods. Once the sheets were removed there was still a lot of work needed around the Abbey Stadium.
The ice needed removing by using a plastic rake, then some areas needed forking - Wendy, Paul and Ian can be seen carrying out the work ![]()
All the metal staircases around the Main Stand needed sweeping to remove the water and also any rubbish on them

Staircases in the Main Stand are cleaned and cleared of rubbish before every match
The sheets came off today, having done their job of protecting the goalmouth at the South Stand end
This area gets little sun and needs additional protecting when frost is forecast, See photos below of Ian, Mick and Paul Harrision working hard to remove them. They are really heavy to move and fold due to the amount of water they hold. There are two sheets needed to cover the area.

Following this weekend’s news that Dave Doggett has stood down as Club Chairman and from the Board of Cambridge United,
Cambridge Fans United would like to place on record its thanks for all the hard work, time, dedication and financial support he put into ensuring we still have a club to watch today. He could have turned his back on the club on many occasions during difficult periods. However he chose not to do so. He showed loyalty, friendship and leadership and he brought energy, direction and unity to the club. During his Chairmanship of Cambridge United, the club returned after a long period of time to the Football League. We also won the FA Trophy at Wembley. We all enjoyed those moments and without his presence we may well still have been a non-league club today. Dave’s desire to make the club part of the community and also to be a welcoming place for everyone will ensure he remains in the heart of many associated with Cambridge United and also in the community locally. Dave, we wish you every happiness, enjoyment and success in whatever you plan to do in the future. |
