England players serve up Christmas lunch and chat mental health with guests at SGP one of those guest was Ian Darler. Watch the video and read the story below
Ian Darler, Cambridge It was a such a nice surprise. When I entered the world of mental health, which came after a serious accident, the last thing I ever thought was that I’d find myself at St. George’s Park meeting the England players along with an amazing group of people who’ve all been through similar situations. I had no idea what was coming! But I think everybody sitting around the table was appreciative of each other, there are various things which relate to different forms of mental health and it was like a big counselling session with everybody’s views being the same. I’ve been involved in professional football myself for 41 years, after starting in 1979 as the youngest head groundsman in the Football League at Cambridge United and since then, I’ve moved to be the stadium manager and matchday safety officer. CUFC v Orient
The M11 derby. Not the greatest of names in my opinion, but as the second nearest rivals I suppose it is good enough. Following a good point at Cheltenham, the last game before Christmas sees the return of Josh Coulson (unfortunately in the red colours of Orient), hero scorer of our first goal back in the league. I'm sure all U's fans will give him a good reception before the game, lets hope he doesn't score against us! Ticket details here: cufc.venuetoolbox.com/VenueManagement/asp/bookTickets.asp?homeArea=home&dept= There will be a Bauble & Spoon race at half time to raise funds for Wintercomfort. Entry details here: https://www.cambridge-united.co.uk/news/2019/december/bauble-and-spoon/ As well as match programmes and 50/50 draw tickets, at the CFU outlet we should have more stock of Life's a Pitch by Ian Darler (it is a really great read), and we have a few sets of Celery & Coconuts volumes 1, 2 and 3 at the special price of £33.50 (cash only). On the subject of Christmas presents, I was in the club shop the other day. They have the usual replica shirts, hats & scarves etc, but also a good selection of gift ideas. Have a look here: https://cufc.venuetoolbox.com/VenueManagement/asp/displayProductGroup.asp?id Nomophobia? Do you have Nomophobia? Look it up on your phone: The fear of losing mobile phone signal! U's fan Stu Proudfoot has written a book on how we interact with each other, suitable for children, teens and adults (Did you see the picture in the Plymouth programme of Liam Hughes with the book?). More details here: https://www.nadiaandhamid.com/ If you want to have a look at the book Stu will have copies at the CFU Outlet ehen we play Orient on 21st December 2019. CUFC New Ground? Read CFU Chairman Robert Osbourn's thought on the possible new ground for or come to the outlet for a chat To read what by clicking here CUFC Foodbank (#hungerdoesntwearclubcolours) There was a great response to the request for food items to be left at the CFU outlet before the Plymouth match. This initiative will continue, you can also leave items at the club shop on non-match days. Tesco vouchers are also accepted (and are much lighter to carry!). Details (including the most required items)can be found here CUFC Shirts CFU are looking for donations of CUFC shirts, especially those from before 1990, to be displayed in frames at the Abbey. Any duplicates will be sold to raise funds to cover the framing cost, any that cannot be sold will be donated to a suitable charity (probably sending the shirts to Africa as we have done in the past). CUFC FUTSAL Another win last week as CUFC Futsal beat Birmingham Tigers 6-3. Next is a big game against York at the University of Cambridge Sports Centre (CB3 0AS), entry is free. The U19s kick off at 4:30pm, the main match is 5:40 kick off. The above photo sows four sets of wheelchair guards duly painted in Amber and Black with universal fittings.
This will ensure that the Cambridge United Power Wheelchair Footballers are able to play the beautiful game, practise their skills safely in the knowledge that their valuable power chairs have some degree of protection. The instigator and driving force behind the purchase is Phil Mullen, Disability Sports Officer for the CambridgeUnited Community Trust. The Cambridge United Lottery are glad to fund the equipment in a joint venture with the Trust. The cost was approximately £1300.00. To find out more information about the club lottery
