CFU STATEMENT: CORRESPONDENCE WITH PAUL BARRY
Supporters may recall, around the time it was announced that Paul Barry would be taking a controlling interest in Cambridge United, that Cambridge Fans United (CFU) had written to Paul regarding a number of matters, to explore how he hoped to take the Club forward. Paul has since replied to Robert Osbourn, CFU Chair, and a very open and honest exchange followed. At Paul’s request most of the detail will remain private and confidential, but he was able to offer Robert a number of important assurances concerning the short, medium and long term future of the football club that he now, effectively, owns. In his response Paul explained that the structure he now implemented at the Club mirrors those in place at his other, successful, businesses in the United States. Over the coming months he has undertaken, with the Board's advice and assistance, to critically examine all key areas of the football club, including the joint venture project, and to make adjustments (or more fundamental changes) where considered necessary. Paul reiterated the crucial significance of a new stadium to the long term prosperity of the Club, and highlighted the sensitive and delicate work that lies ahead to bring it to fruition. To get there is it clear that all those with a stake in the Club need to work closely, and carefully, together, and cites the Club’s motto “United in Endeavour” as the key to success. Fans and CFU clearly have important roles to play in the future of Cambridge United FC. CFU is very grateful to Paul for his honesty and stands ready to support the Club achieve his vision.
