United’s director of football helped oversee a takeover of the financially-stricken club in the summer and warned then that the Gulls’ situation was perilous.

But with attendances dropping below the 1,800 figure that new chairman David Phillips stated was the club’s break-even figure, things only seem to have got worse at the Launa Windows Stadium as the new regime swim against the tide and the rising costs of running a football club.

These are desperate days for the National League Premier club, who were forced to lay off a number of staff when the new regime took over, while the-then manager, Chris Hargreaves, and his assistant, Lee Hodges were placed on gardening leave.
