Former Cambridge United player Len Saward relives glory days at the Abbey

None other than the legendary Wilf Mannion claimed Len Saward was the cleverest footballer he played with.

Given Mannion was one of the biggest stars of his day with England and Middlesbrough, that is quite an epithet.

But it is Saward's proud son Patrick who passes on this titbit – along with telling how his father was also close to signing for Arsenal – when the News caught up with one of Cambridge United's famous names from their pre-Football League past.
