FUNDRAISER FOR THE ROYAL ANGLIAN REGIMENT CHARITY SPONSORED BY CATHERINE JONES OF CAMBRIDGE

Cambridge United are delighted to announce the Club will be hosting a fundraiser at tomorrow’s Sky Bet League Two fixture with Luton Town, for the Royal Anglian Benevolent Charity.

Eight-year old Jack Entwisle, will lead a group of relatives of WWI soldiers to present the match ball as the Ethos Community Heroes of the Day prior to kick off. They will be joined by soldiers of the Royal Anglian Regiment. Jack's great great grandfather, Private Ernest Muggleton served in WWI.

Remembering the ‘1914 Christmas Truce Football matches' between British and German Soldiers at Christmas 1914, the first year of World War I.

Catherine Jones of Cambridge, sponsors of the fundraiser, issued the following statement: “We are celebrating football. A game played by this Club for over 100 years and by Cambridge men in the trenches in World War I during the Christmas Truce in December 1914.”

There will be a 24-man Corps of Drums and pipes playing before the match and a bugler will sound the 'Last Post'. Meanwhile, at half-time, there will be a 5 a-side match behind the goal on the pitch between Cambridge United Man v Fat players and the University of Cambridge Officer Training Corps.

A bucket collection will take place before the match, at half time and after at exits and in the bars, so the Club encourages supporters to donate as generously as possible.

Events:

1.45pm    The Corps of Drums will play at the main turnstile (by the CU shop).
All turnstiles and entrances to ground.
2.30pm        Corps of Drums to re-locate onto pitch to play before kick-off.
Bugler to sound ‘Last Post’.
2.50pm        Community heroes drawn from the Regiment and the Community stand by to present the match ball to the umpire.
