Back to the Future in Midfield
t was a mild spring morning when Dicky Dosh walked into the home dressing room for one last time for the season. He had primarily returned to pick up a pair of trainers that he did not want to get lost during the summer refurb. However he was not alone, he could hear someone in the shower.
"Don't you ever go home boss" a voice asked. The voice was Luke Berry. "But you are at Barnsley" questioned the confused manager. "What are you talking about boss?, I am a Cambridge United player I think you must have fallen asleep in your office and had a bad dream. Dicky Dosh had just experienced a "1980's Bobby Ewing moment" where the last season never happened and Luke Berry was always a Cambridge United player. Luke never did have his head turned by the bright lights of Barnsley after all. How United had missed Luke's drive, energy and goals from midfield. How United missed the Berry, Champion partnership in midfield. I for one was disappointed to see Tom leave the club, and I certainly was not surprised to see him find another club so quickly. For me one of the worst moments of the entiire season was news of Luke departure. However the new season offers a potential new central midfield partnership that promises to be more combative and competitive. Keith Keane is known to United fans from his time at Luton, where he was Dicky Dosh's midfield enforcer. Sometimes I am sure it felt he was there to protect Dicky from his own fans as he walked to the home dug out on the far side of the Kenilworth Road pitch. Keane should give United just hint of steel and grit that we have been missing. However skill and pace has also been added to the 2015-2016 midfield too with the likes Jeff Hughes, the emerging talent of Gearoid Morrissey added to the magic dust that Harrison Dunk and Ryan Donaldson can sprinkle. United have a lot to be optimistic about. One worry is that if Luke leaving was just a dream, did we really play Man U. in the FA cup? Mainstandman
