Recreating magic moments in the history of the Abbey - Phoenix from the Abbey relive the first Abbey goals
On September 3rd 1932 Abbey United played their first competitive match at the Abbey Stadium.
With the aid of volunteers we have recreated the sweeping moves that saw Harvey Cornwell score the first goal for Abbey United in Phoenix from the Abbey against Histon and then followed below by the second which was similar in it's movement
Following exhausted research and speaking to people who weren't present we have come to the conclusion that the Abbey United side adopted a pyramid system. It could also have have been the WM formation that was starting to be use at the time.
Watch the videos below - Wendy Twinn took the role of Harvey Cornwell who scored twice on the day. Wendy was able to score both of the goals following sweeping moves that went unchalleged according to reports of the time and driven forwards by Caroling from the centre circle. Husband Mick is thankfully a drummer and was able to keep the rhythm of the move going.
Other players taking part were for Abbey United - Les Weston, Mick Brown, Phil Mullen, Ian Darler, Paul Burling, Caroline Radford, Mick Radford
Histon Goalkeeper was Alan (drop the ball) Burge
Thank you to everyone who took part in the re-creation
