The week so far - cold, busy and rewarding - The Apprentice Groundsman

This week has seen a variety of different tasks being required to get everything ready for the match this Saturday against Grimsby.

For the team of volunteers on Monday the priority was to get the stadium cleared of rubbish and for the ground staff it is to get the pitch ready.

Next week will be harder to get everything prepared as there is a match on Saturday and another on Tuesday so the turnaround times are greatly reduced. If you can help on Monday with cleaning the ground please contact me via the email form below. You can also help by putting any rubbish in the bins.

So far this week the wind has been bitterly cold. Cutting through you rather than going around. A lazy wind.
It is probably the coldest week of the year so far, however next week is looking to be a lot warmer and sunnier so painting outside may be able to start again at some point after Tuesday. It might be a chance to get the shorts back on again for the first time since early December.

I judge the weather now by how many pair of gloves are required to my hands warm. It is currently two pairs sometimes.

On Tuesday Radders made the tribute to Andrew Bennett in the Habbin from his many  friends  protected from the weather. I hope they are happy with what we have done.

Today started with clearing one of the drain aways It had become filled with leaves, mud, rubbish and started to become blocked. Each one has a pot to collect waste and needs emptying periodically.

We also continued to clear the gap between the top terrace and the metal cladding in the Habbin of rubbish. this has built up and is being cleared now regularly.

This afternoon the first dementia cafe took place. We will provide a further update in the near future, however, I found it really moving and enjoyed helping out. Talking about football in the sixties was really informative for me and I enjoyed talking to everyone there. Singing Coconuts proved once again why I was never picked for choir practice at school. (Will Jones will confirm I can not even clap in time)

The first session for the spray can painting with SiMitchell also commenced and I will let you know more in the future about that event as well. I did see some of the work in progress and was very impressed.
