At the end of 1993/94 Cambridge United were riding a wave of optimism, burying opponents in a 74-goal avalanche in the last 16 games.

But the start of the 1994/95 campaign – the club’s 25th in the Football League – was less happy and United lined up against Stockport County at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday August 20 looking for their first points.

United, ahead in the 18th minute, were 2-1 down by half-time. Stockport struck twice more before the U’s
staged a late two-goal rally.

They would have to wait four more games for their first win. The 93/94 goal blizzard must have seemed an eternity ago.

What was different about this home match was that photographer Geoff Price was given an ‘access all areas’ pass to the Abbey Stadium, to make a unique photographic record of the backroom staff, volunteers, police and fans at a typical home game.

With over 150 never seen before black and white photos, Geoff is producing a book and planning an exhibition to show his now historic view of life at Cambridge United.

The Coconut Loft’s two vibrant galleries offer original paintings and crafts at affordable prices, with regular exhibitions by local artists and photographers.

The Village Deli features produce sourced from Suffolk and Norfolk: award-winning jams and marmalades from Loddon-based Season's Bounty; Suffolk cheeses, charcuterie and Anchor Smokehouse fish; and the popular Stokes pickle and chutney range. This is all underpinned by a range of Cottage Delight sauces and dips.

The Coconut Loft is available for private event hire. The main area can comfortably seat up to 50 people and has a PA system and a small convertible stage/platform.

The lottery is administered by volunteer fans as a sub-group of Cambridge Fans United and is run in association with Cambridge United. It aims to raise funds for fans' amenities at the Abbey stadium and local community projects.

Lottery membership costs £2 a week. Payment can be made monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or annually by cash, cheque or standing order.

From moneys received, 95p is paid into a prize fund – the greater the number of memberships, the larger the prizes; 5p is paid into a cost fund, covering licences, printing and web charges; 70p is paid into a fund for fan amenities; and 30p is paid into a community fund.

Two draws are held each week. The first is for a weekly prize – currently £300. If there is no winner, runner-up prizes are awarded. The second draw is for the jackpot accumulator – the member holding the four-digit number in the winning order wins the jackpot. If there is no winner the jackpot increases by £50 each week until the maximum (currently £2,500) is reached.

Huntingdon Racecourse.

Huntingdon, part of The Jockey Club, is one of the friendliest racecourses in Britain, regularly chosen as Best Small Racecourse in the South Midlands and East Anglia.

Set near the convergence of the A1 and A14, it could not be easier to find. There are racing fixtures on 18 days of the year, with the highlight the prestigious Peterborough Chase, run a fortnight before Christmas. This contest has attracted some of the greats like Desert Orchid, One Man, Edredon Bleu and Best Mate. The most popular day of the year is usually the Boxing Day meeting.

The Peterborough Chase Restaurant offers fine dining, while on the biggest racing days visitors can enjoy their own picnics. There’s a champagne and seafood bar too, along with Lentons Bar and Hurdles Bistro.

Free children’s entertainment is laid on during bank holiday meetings and on Sundays – and accompanied under-18s are always admitted free. Young adults and senior citizens can register for discounted admission.
The standard of the racetrack is renowned – in 2016, the groundstaff team was chosen as the best in Britain – while the venue has received Excellence accolades from VisitEngland.
