Cambridge is a wonderful city and there is always lots to do locally. If you are coming just for the match or for a break, there’s a lot to do locally. It’s the perfect place for culture, adventure and family fun.

Explore the beautiful surroundings of Granchester or visit the aircraft at IWM Duxford. Walk  along the river at the back of colleges or visit the Football Statue on Parkers Piece which is situated about 20 mins away from the Abbey Stadium.

There’s always something new to experience with our latest events, festivals and activities in Cambridge and beyond.

Don't forget to you can always go further by visiting Ely or Newmarket or St Ives

Cambridge looks forward to welcoming you. Find out more by clicking here

Less than fifteen minutes from the
Cledara Abbey Stadium are two large shopping parks on Newmarket Road and Coldhams Lane

The Cambridge Museum of Technology is about a 10 min walk from the ground - see www.museumoftechnology.com/visit for details

The Centre for Computing History is much more than a museum. Based in Cambridge, it hosts hands-on exhibitions, educational workshops and a wide range of activities and events. Most importantly, it makes the history of computing relevant and fun for all ages

Cledara Abbey Stadium across the common. See www.computinghistory.org.uk/ for more information about the museum

Punting on the Cam
There are various punt operators on the river. Guides will punt you through the stunning College Backs, and entertain you with Cambridge’s inspiring history as you discover the secrets of the city. While soaking up the atmosphere of the exclusive riverside Colleges, admire sublime bridges, glimpse prestigious private gardens and get a sample of some of the local wildlife – predominantly ducks and swans!

Or you can try your own hand at punting by hiring a punt yourself

Visiting the University

Little Saint Mary’s Church which is between the Fitzwilliam Museum and Peterhouse College. Inside is a plaque commemorating a former vicar of the church, Godfrey Washington of York (1670-1729) who, was possibly the great uncle of George Washington. The coat of arms above the plaques inscription has included red five-pointed stars and stripes on a white background. It is apparently the family crest of the Washington family,  Is this the origin of the American flag? Seee photo

Another location near Cambridge is The American War Cemetary at Madingley
. It lies on a slope with the west and south sides framed by woodland. The cemetery contains the remains of 3,811 of our war dead; 5,127 names are recorded on the Walls of the Missing. Rosettes mark the names of those since recovered and identified. Most died in the Battle of the Atlantic or in the strategic air bombardment of northwest Europe. See the link www.abmc.gov/Cambridge

While in Cambridge why not visit the Cambridge Football Rules monument. In 1848 a group of University students agreed on a single set of rules by which to play football on Parker’s Piece.

These 11 rules were the first rules for football in the modern era. They were almost entirely adopted by the Football Association when drafting the FA rules in 1863. You could say that Parker’s Piece itself is the birthplace of football as we know it.
