This evening we welcome the supporters, officials and players of Doncaster Rovers to the Abbey Stadium. In the Portsmouth programme we spoke about the Family Excellence Scheme. One of the clubs who have led the way since its introduction has been Doncaster. They are totally focused in improving the matchday experience for all their supporters. They are also willing to try different things while challenging themselves to improve. During the summer they kindly helped with a questionaire concerning Covid
After every match we ask supporters if there are any seats needing to be repaired or facility issues needing to be addressed. I thought it would be good to provide a short update concerning some of the projects we have been working on and completed since the start of the season. I am really grateful for all the assistance Ian Darler, Mick Brown, Andy Harper-Scott and all the volunteers in completing the repairs and new projects
Personally, my favourite project over the past 12 months has been to see scoreboards working again on match days. Their provision is due to the work and fundraising of the CUFCLottery and the group that run it. If you haven’t joined see www.cufclottery.co.uk The lottery helps finance many of the amenities, activities and improvements around the ground. The more members, the more projects can be completed. There are plans to make further improvements and changes in the coming months that will hopefully help supporters to enjoy the match day experience If you would like to report a broken seat/bench in the Main or South Stands, please contact the me by using the e-form below or by emailing me. You can also report any facility issues. We will endeavour to repair or address them as soon as we can via the link here or contact me by emailing dave.matthew-jones@cambridge-united.co.uk You can contact me via dave.matthew-jones@cambridge-united.co.uk or follow what is happening via the www.facebook.com/CambridgeUnitedFootballClub facebook site www.cambridgefansunited.org website or via twitter SLO@CambridgeUTD We all need to Be Loud, Be Proud and Be United. The U’s are seeking helpers to join the match day team at the Abbey, playing an important role in selling match day programme Contact dave.matthew-jones@cambridge-united.co.uk Today, we welcome the supporters, officials and players of Portsmouth to the Abbey Stadium. I have a lot of respect for supporters like Ashley Brown and Simon Colebrook. I have spoken to them many times over the years. Ashley has been and continues to be a really important figure in his roles with both Supporters Direct and the Football Supporters Association (FSA). He is one of those go to people who is the font of all knowledge and has so much experience. Simon and myself have been working together on a project for the past eighteen months, so we have shared many zoom calls and hours during that time. What the Pompey Supporters Trust and their board achieved at Portsmouth was nothing less than remarkable.
Just before Christmas we received the Family Excellent Award scores following their assessors first visit to the Abbey Stadium earlier in the season. The scores are based on a visit by a mystery shopper. Although, the marks were promising and were an improvement on previous ones we still have a way to go on the journey. There is always more to do and more to learn. Once one bar is reached then its target needs to be raised. The EFL’s Family Excellence Scheme was launched to reward clubs in their efforts to deliver an outstanding match-day family experience. The scheme revolves around a ‘mystery fan’ visiting each season, with assessors and family groups reporting back on their experiences across a range of touchpoints. These being First Impressions, Social Media, Travel, Stadium Vicinity, Retail, Refreshments, Inside the Stadium, People, Friendliness and Feeling Valued The assessments and feedback produced help to focus on the areas required to ensure improvements can be made. The visits, and the positive changes made as a result, go towards determining whether Clubs are awarded Family Excellence status each season. There will be a second visit made by an accessor at some point from February onwards. We need to be ready when they come back. During November, the CUFCLottery purchased a new offroad wheelchair for the club. The existing one was broken and needed replacing. Since its arrival it has already been used twice to help the medical team to assist supporters at matches. To join the lottery, see www.cufclottery.co.uk 100yearsofcoconuts have recently ordered a re-print of the Andrew Bennett’s Celery & Coconuts series of books. The collection can be posted to you or collected on matchdays. The books are an excellent read and documentation of the club’s history. They can be ordered via https://tinyurl.com/zt43t6ww Following the recent Government regulations concerning covid please be patience and ensure you follow the advice, requirements and rules as you did previously.
